The Midnight Sun and North Star are ORCA class vessels managed by TOTE Services. Purpose built for the Alaska trade in 2003, these special purpose trailer ships are designed to easily accommodate rolling stock of all types and sizes. The vessel design uses diesel-electric engines, twin screws, and a hull form that is integral to providing a reliable weekly service to Anchorage, Alaska.
In 2023, TOTE Services completed the worlds-first underway conversion of commercial vessels from diesel to operate on LNG. The ORCA class vessels have been commissioned to operate on LNG sourced by Puget Sound Energy in Tacoma, WA.
